This data sheet outlines our capability in the field of long
distance wideband microwave signal transmission through advanced
fibre-optic solutions. Extending our experience with fibre-optic
transmission of IF signals up to 1GHz and HDB3-coded
telecommunications signals, we are now able to offer solutions
for microwave links up to 18GHz.
Our
systems find applications in the remoting of microwave antennas
for satellite earth stations and mobile communications sites,
radar system calibration, phased array antenna systems and
frequency distribution systems. All links are based on fibre-optic
transmit and receive interfaces which can be fully integrated
into existing microwave systems or supplied as part of a
complete custom system specified, configured and built to your
requirements.
In
traditional microwave systems, broadband signals are
demultiplexed into bands then transmitted over multiple coaxial
cables. With the inherent losses and frequency dependence of
coaxial cable, repeaters are required with additional
amplifiers, filters and gain equalisers to achieve the required
link. Optical systems, with their flat frequency response and
virtually lossless transmission medium, do away with all of
these complexities. The result is a compact, simple, reliable
system which should provide a long, maintenance-free working
life.
We
can undertake all aspects of integration from link planning,
design of interfacing components, installation and
commissioning, either independently or working in full
co-operation with your own engineers.
