CSS has two fully calibrated, air-conditioned laboratories with test, measurement and calibration facilities currently covering the frequency range DC-70GHz utilising both commercial and proprietary special-to-type test equipment (STTE). CSS is currently able to test most essential receiver parameters up to 40GHz with some tests to 55GHz and 70GHz. The documents below summarise the types test equipment in our inventory and the typical parameters we are able to measure.

Our six independent, fully networked ATE test stations and temperature chamber can all be monitored and controlled remotely via secure, internet connections allowing 24/7 operation and testing.

We have invested considerable time and resources developing extensive proprietary ATE processes using National Instruments LabWindows CVI and C++ for the fault-finding, calibration and soak testing of our own products and those of our Partners and other manufacturers. This results in reduced test time and maintenance costs, helps to eliminate human error and ensures detailed, consistent, repeatable results. Where other manufacturers may perform spot tests at selective frequencies, we test all equipment across its entire operating range in small, defined steps and provide full graphical plots to our customers.

CSS utilises a Vötsch VT-7034 335-litre microprocessor-controlled temperature chamber covering the range -70°C to +180°C with manual touchscreen and remote ATE software control. This provides a valuable facility used for the calibration of microwave receivers for gain, noise figure and demodulator outputs over frequency and temperature, and for stress and soak testing of equipment during fault-finding and after repair. It is also used for performance evaluation during the design and development of new equipment for harsh environments, and allows testing of customer ancillary products such as outdoor antennas and other masthead equipment.

Many modern digital receivers may be calibrated for consistent gain and noise figure over frequency and temperature by programming internal look-up tables which set attenuation at various stages in the receiver chain. This can be a very intensive process, especially with wideband microwave receivers and is ideally suited to ATE processes..Our calibration software can make thousands of measurements over an extended period and automatic optimisation algorithms find the optimal values for each receiver setting under each set of conditions.

Using our Soak Test software, receivers and other equipment may be stress and soak tested by measuring and monitoring many different performance parameters while randomly changing receiver state and monitoring BITE and measurements for errors, building a graphical 'health' picture over thousands of measurements. This is invaluable for revealing intermittent faults in equipment which may otherwise be missed with manual testing.

CSS is also able to assist with safety and compliance testing for qualification of equipment against requirements of CE marking (safety, EMC, Machinery Directive) or DEF-STAN (Safety, EMC) for military programmes. We work closely with independent safety assessment companies and test houses to assess equipment, then provide a report of any failures with fully priced proposal for corrective actions which we can carry out on your behalf, re-testing equipment after modification where required.
